Banner Children's Hospital Garden Railroad
The train garden at Banner Children's Hospital at Banner
Desert Medical Center provides a delightful distraction for pediatric
patients and visitors. Special features include a lighted Diamondbacks
stadium, a circus and a western town.
Named "Trains for Kids by Isabelle," the garden is the vision of John
and Isabelle Macrone, who conceived the idea when their grandson was a
patient at Banner Children's Hospital. John and Isabelle donated many hours
of their time, their skill, experience, love of trains and considerable
resources to bring this dream to life.
Sadly, Isabelle passed away in early 2005 before the train garden was fully
completed. In her memory, John continued the work and the result is a
delightful and therapeutic pastime for children and adults who spend time at
Banner Children's Hospital. John continues to work on the train garden, with
help from members of the Arizona Big Train Operators Club. ABTO members have
made significant contributions to the BCH project.
